Do You Love the Pixie Cut?

Pixie cut

I first chopped my hair in high school a la Winona Ryder, then in college it was the Samaire Armstrong faux-hawk. I always grew it out because there weren’t many girls with the pixie cut during the late 98’s and early 00’s era of long highlighted Britney Spears tresses.

About 4 years ago suddenly inspired by Selma Blair’s bleached ‘do I randomly chopped in again in my bathroom which gave my then bf quite a shock. It was the most liberating feeling to not care what society thinks a beautiful woman should look like and my confidence went gone through the roof! Lately I’ve been noticing more women joining the pixie revolution… its like a secret society… giving each other an nod as our hairless heads meet. I feel there is more of an acceptance for the ‘do and I haven’t had the desire to grow it since. When it was long it took me an average of 15-20 minutes to style my hair with 6 products, blowdry and iron which has been dwindled down to on wash of Dr. Bronner’s, cream wax, comb and go! I get compliments on a daily basis equally from men and woman. I rarely am mistaken for a lesbian (was pretty bummed at Pride when the woman kept stating I looked “stiff” [meaning straight]) or a boy, if so its usually old men or young boys who aren’t quite in my date interest anyway!
