Four Stages Of Growing Your Pixie Cut

Emma Watson, Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman, and Ginnifer Goodwin – What do all of these ladies have in common? They all took the pixie plunge and have had to grow it back out. Hopefully that gives your comfort and motivation to know that if they can grow out the pixie cut in the public’s eye, you can do it too!

I’ll give away the secret first and foremost: you must have a great stylist to help you with manage the style as it grows out. So stick with your stylist who knows your hair and knows you.

There are four stages to growing out a pixie cut:

1. Shaggy Pixie Tips for coping: One word: headband!

Headbands are going to help add a bit of shape to your hair and most importantly, help hide the mullet that is inevitably coming soon. Headbands also add a bit of flair and flash to any outfit. Depending on the look you want to achieve, glam up your headband with rich textures like velvet and satin. Going casual? Try a classic tortoiseshell headband.

2. Messy Mullet

Tips for coping: Manage it. That’s all you can really do at this point. Get to know your stylist really well and get the back trimmed while the front catches up. Also, the hair growing out around your ears? Do not trim these! Pin it away or wear a headband to avoid looking like your head is the shape of a box. Once they grow out, they will prevent the mullet look and give the illusion of longer hair since they frame your face.

3. Short Bob

Tips for coping: Look at this as an opportunity to try new styles as you are growing your locks long again. Once you’ve gotten past the mullet stage (3-4 months-ish) get a trendy asymmetrical bob, add a little texture, whatever you want. Enjoy to time you’re spending growing you hair out.

4. Ponytail length!

Tips for coping: Embrace it! You did it! You can finally put your hair in a ponytail. You had the patience to wait it out for a long time and you look great. Congratulations. Enjoy your new long locks. Don’t forget to head to your now BFF stylist for regular trims to keep your tresses healthy, OK?
