How to Make Your Blowout Last: 6 Simple Tips

There are too many reasons to count why you would want to get a blowout – ranging from date night to treat yourself days – all being totally acceptable. But with the average blowout costing about $50, you want to make that hair work for you for as many days as possible! Luckily, there are only 5 things you need to keep track of post-blowout to make it last for up to 5 days (depending on your washing schedule of course!).

1. Sleep thoughtfully.

It’s important to keep in mind how you sleep and try to keep it under control. If you tend to toss and turn, get a silk pillowcase to keep the friction between your pillow and hair at a minimum. Also, try sleeping on your back with your hair splayed out over your pillow case to make the smallest impact on the style.

2. Take extra care in the shower.

Nothing is going to rob your hair of that beautiful volume faster than moisture. We recommend loosely wrapping a scarf (yes, like an old woman coming out of the salon) around your hair line and tying underneath in the back to protect the hairline.  Even better, make it a silk scarf to keep hairs extra smooth. Put a shower cap over the scarf to really protect the blowout.

3. Ban ponytails for the week.

Sorry, no ponytails until the very last day! You really don’t want to drag down your beautiful blowout or put a nasty crease in your hair with an elastic hair tie. When you’re finally done with rocking your blowout, use any left-over volume to rock a voluminous pony or sock bun. Trust me, after wearing your hair down all week you’ll be happy to pull it back and you’ll like the way the left over volume adds to the style.

4. Learn Your Product

“My go to secret for make a blow out last is a combination of strong hold gel with a smoothing cream.  The strong gel gives the hold and the foundation you need to keep your style for a few days and the cream help smooth the hair and make the hair slip through the brush better,” says stylist Mindy Stegall. “Add a dry shampoo the following days and extend the style even longer.” Dry shampoo will be your very best friend throughout week. The key to using dry shampoo with a blowout is to use it early on, don’t wait for your hair to look greasy! Find a dry shampoo that you love and use it starting on day 2 or 3.

5. Don’t touch it!

Seriously, the grease, oil, and dirt from your hands are not going to do your blowout any favors. If you can help it, don’t touch your hair. Use a wide tooth comb to keep your hair clean, distribute dry shampoo, and your volume rocking!

6. Ask for MEGA volume!

If your goal is to make that blowout last for days, ask your stylist for all the volume on the day of your blowout.

Whether you’re getting a blowout for a special occasion or just as a fun girl’s day at the salon, you should make that beautiful style last as long as you can!
