Tips on How to Get Beachy Waves for Any Hair Type

The days of sleek-straight, stick-like hair is a thing of the past. Say hello to summer and goodbye to fighting sleek perfection (especially in this humidity) with perfect beachy waves!

As a hairstylist, it’s sometimes difficult for me to accept messy or imperfect styles – but that’s exactly what beachy, textured looks are all about.

To get the perfect beachy, textured look, you don’t have to have naturally curly hair! With today’s styling tools, methods and products, you can create soft, voluptuous beach waves with ease. Read through this post to find out how to get beachy waves no matter your hair type.

Naturally wavy hair

For those of you with wavy hair, you’re in luck! This style is super easy for you to create and maximize your hair’s natural movement.

Start by working a liberal amount of AG Hair Beach Bomb Tousled Texture through damp hair to enhance your curl and allow your texture to literally shine. Then, simply let your hair air dry to get perfect messy waves. For a little extra volume boost, you can blow dry your waves on a low-heat setting with a diffuser.

Fine hair

Finer-textured hair takes a little more love to create waves – but never fear, it can be done!

Pump up your hair’s volume without adding excess weight by working AG Hair Foam Weightless Volumizer through damp hair. Then blow dry your hair completely and set it in medium-sized velcro rollers. (Make sure to roll them in a direction that’s away your face).

Help your curls set by spritzing the rollers all over with AG Hair Ultradynamics Extra-Firm Spray, then use your blow dryer again on the rollers to help the dry and cool down completely.

Take out the rollers from your dried, cooled strands. Before combing or brushing, spray some AG Hair FastFwd Dry Shampoo on your locks to add extra texture and bulk to your hair. Lightly run your fingers through your hair and gently scrunch your waves while respraying your strands with Ultradynamics spray.

Super curly hair

For my super curly gals, listen up! You can have gentle beach waves just as much as the next girl. Swear!

To start, work AG Hair Beach Bomb Tousled Texture through your hair, then roughly dry it with a blow dryer on a low-heat setting and with a diffuser. Only finger-comb your strands while drying – using a brush may straighten your hair too much and not allow enough texture remain.

After drying, spray a small amount of AG Hair Thermal Setting Spray Gel onto your strands, then set your hair with large hot rollers or large velcro rollers. Allow the curls to cool completely, then spray your waves lightly with AG Hair Aerodynamics Lightweight Spray. Run your fingers through your curls to help separate and tame them. If you want a little less volume or mass, gently comb through them with a wide-tooth comb to help them settle.

With this hair type, you might be able to get two or three days out of this style by twisting your mane in place before bed time.

No matter your hair type, you really CAN rock beachy waves this summer!
