Making the Most out of Long Braided Hairstyles
Long braided hairstyles are definitely coming in big style and learning one or two of the many techniques will keep your tresses turning heads day after day. From the classic French plait to chain mail braiding, fish-tail patterns and a few braided strands of hair simply holding back or accentuating a mass of glorious loose curls, anything goes.
Braids can be simply placed at the back of the head; take a more playful turn by sitting to one side or weave their way all the way around the head, the choice is really a matter of personal preference. A fairly loose, playful look can be achieved by loosely braiding just a few strands of hair and allowing them to provide a surprising highlight to an otherwise fairly straight, though slightly tangled look.
By taking sections of the hair and braiding those in a broad plait around the top of the head, with the rest of the hair being allowed to flow in large curls will create an extremely romantic look. For a breezy, carefree and almost hippy-like look, try weaving a few strands of colored ribbon in with the braid. The same kind of look can be achieved by randomly placing odd, thin braids amongst otherwise choppy hairstyles. They should be braided fairly loose, to blend in with the overall style, rather than immediately drawing attention.
The chain mail braid mentioned above involves the use of metal rings, which are worked into the braid and around the top and back area of the head. This almost medieval look is great for a special occasion or even a fancy dress party, but it will take a bit of practice and possibly a helping hand.
Braid all hair into one tight braid at the side of the head for a very elegant, but almost strict appearance. For a more playful, flirty look, place a loose braid low on either side of the face. Starting fairly low on the head, preferably no higher than the lower end of the ear, braid the hair just loosely and tie the end off with a colorful ribbon for this look.
A Braid started just above the ears on either side of the face and working down and backward until they join will beautifully frame a face, while at the same time keeping a mass of wavy hair free to cascade down the back. This is another very romantic look, especially if some of the curls are teased forward over the shoulders.
Long braided hairstyles can give you a different look every day. Many of them can be achieved very quickly, without a great deal of effort, while others may take a little longer and will be more suitable for special occasions. Either way, they are incredibly attractive and can be used to make a statement of your choice.
